The best classified sites from around the world are below plus some comments on the other smaller players.

There's some great articles also - generally well worth a read.

There are few GREAT car classified sites around.  I've selected one per country and put some comments on some of the less great ones as well:

A review of some of the Australian sites:
carsales (Australia)

Australia's #1

We really like the fact that carsales.com.au has maybe twice as many cars as anyone else, is really easy to use and is safer for buyers and sellers.
It's also not too "try hard" - like some of the other websites in Australia and is designed to make buying and selling cars not only simple, but effective.
carsales.com is listed on the ASX and there is no majority or controlling shareholder.

Gumtree is a WHOLLY owned subsidiary of eBay.  Disappointing most people think it's a privately owned, Australian business.
As far as freemium sites go (sites that make you think they're free but really do the hard-sell on "upgrades"), they're well ahead of most of the competition.  If you're selling or buying a VERY cheap car, they're probably the best of the free-to-list sites.

Drive.com.au is owned by Fairfax.
They're the publisher of daily newspapers such as The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.  Very editorially focussed.  Not much in the way of actual classifieds or sell your car services.

A review of some of the U.K. sites:
AutoTrader (U.K.)
U.K.'s #1

AutoTrader in the U.K. grew out of their print publication that's been operating for decades.  While the print side of the business is pretty much dead - they've really nailed the online offering.

Motors.co.uk is part of the Cox group of companies out of the U.S.  They own Mannheim auctions along with autotrader.com and plenty of other things.  While not a patch on AutoTrader.co.uk, they're a reasonable number 2.

A review of some of the Australian sites:
Autotrader (U.S.)
America's #1

AutoTrader in the U.S. (no relation to AutoTrader U.K.) has done some great moves to become the clear #1.  They own - amongst other things - Kelly Blue Book, better known as KBB.COM.  Other than the fact they have about 3000 pricing options for dealers, they're the best of an ok bunch!

Icon and Stealth EV are building an electric Derelict Mercury

Icon, a company known for its high-quality restomod vehicles, is building another Derelict, this one a 1949 Mercury coupe. While the fact Icon is building another one of its sleeper hot rods with patina isn't the most shocking, what's under the hood is. The company has teamed up with Stealth EV to turn this latest Derelict into an electric car.

OVC 1965 Shelby GT350R Competition First Drive Review | Mustang time machine

One hundred miles per hour, 6,000 rpm. I shift up to fourth gear at the start/finish line and return the throttle to the floor. The 289 cubic inch V8 revs quickly, feels great over four grand, and sings a sweet howl from the Mustang's side-exiting exhaust. We're at Willow Springs Raceway driving a 1965 Shelby GT350 Competition model, a brand-new build constructed by the Original Venice Crew, with license from both Carroll Shelby Licensing and the Ford Motor Company. And I'm four-wheel-drifting i

We drove a 1989 Mercedes G Wagen Cabriolet and it was awesome

It was like telling a fourth grade class they were going to Disneyland. Upon landing in southern France to drive the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the assembled group of jet lagged automotive writers were informed that they were not only about to drive the first next-generation G-Class ever (incredibly cool and exciting in its own right) but were also going to get a chance to drive a selection of classic G Wagens as well. An audible gasp was heard.

BMW iNext design concept teased, full reveal later this year

We have very few details on the BMW iNext project. The new EV is set to go on sale in 2021, will have 435 miles of range and self-driving technology. BMW has described the vehicle as its "technology flagship," so expect every last bit of tech the German automaker has to be packed inside. Still, we don't even know what the new model will look like. It could be a sedan, hatchback or crossover. Each seems as equally likely as the other. Well, we will soon see the iNext — at least an early con

Nissan Armada Mountain Patrol welcomes overlanding season

Nissan is throwing another multi-day overlanding bash ahead of the Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona, this week. Last year, the carmaker debuted the Titan Project Basecamp overlanding pickup at the expo. This year — even though Nissan's event is called "Titan Adventure" — Nissan went with a survivalist SUV called the Armada Mountain Patrol. Other than the fact that you're more likely to see a feral Martha Stewart in the deep woods eating canned rations before you'd see a bugge

Nissan Armada Mountain Patrol to debut tonight at Overland Expo WEST

Last month, Nissan announced it was working on a custom overlanding version of its largest SUV. Dubbed the Nissan Armada Mountain Patrol, it's a follow-up to last year's Nissan Titan XD Project Basecamp and the Nissan Armada Snow Patrol we drove earlier this year. Until now, all we've seen are early renderings, but the automaker has released a shadowy teaser image just ahead of the Mountain Patrol's full reveal tonight in Arizona.

2018 Nissan Rogue does its best Millennium Falcon impression

With Solo, the latest Star Wars film, on the way, it was only a matter of time before we saw yet another custom Nissan made to look like a starship from the series. And for a film about Han Solo, the only logical ship to recreate was Solo's famous Millennium Falcon. It's built in the same impressive fashion as past custom Nissans, even if the proportions are a little odd translated to a car. This Rogue features the key exterior components of Solo's ship, from a panel over the windshield to repli

VW Golf GTI TCR Prototype to debut next week in Austria

Wörthersee — the premier Volkswagen GTI meetup in the world — starts in just a few days in a small town in Austria. The event has been embraced by both Volkswagen and its fans. We usually end up seeing some pretty sweet concept cars like a Porsche-powered VW Type 2 or the bonkers mid-engine VW GTI W12. This year, we'll see the new VW Golf GTI TCR Prototype, a near-production ready hot hatch that goes into production this fall.
